How Our Team Approach Benefits You

  • Provides you the opportunity to build relationships with both of your midwives throughout the course of your prenatal care, expecting that they will attend your birth together. This ensures that you know and trust everyone who is in your birthing space.

  • You benefit from the unique and individual skill sets of both midwives and our combined 32 years of experience in birth work. Our clients have the most experienced homebirth team in Tulsa! Because Sarah and Elizabeth have worked together for many years, the flow and communication at your birth is as seamless and unobtrusive as possible.

  • Our very low client volume works to ensure that your midwives are well-rested and able to be fully present for your birth. We choose to serve a very limited number of families per month in order to provide you with the highest quality care and promote provider sustainability. Because we only serve the greater Tulsa area, you can rest assured we will not be doing clinic or at another birth across the state when you go into labor.

  • Safety is one of our greatest priories and we feel that we can best serve your family through a two-midwife team at each birth whenever possible. This is the standard in many other countries where homebirth is widely practiced and allows us to ensure there is a licensed and qualified attendant for both you and your baby.

It Takes a Village

Sarah and Elizabeth have extensive experience attending homebirths in Oklahoma, with a combined 32 years serving birthing families. They have helped welcome over 1200 babies. This makes them Tulsa’s most experienced homebirth team and allows them to approach birth, in all its facets, with calm confidence and a deep understanding of the process. They have a wealth of practical knowledge about holistic remedies in pregnancy and provide advice on how to treat many common pregnancy complaints naturally.

Our midwives believe strongly in work-life balance and prioritize being fully present with their own families as well as the families they serve at Modern Village Midwifery. To accomplish this, they choose to accept a very low number of clients due each month, offering a personalized and concierge homebirth midwifery experience. This means they have time to get to know you as an individual and provide holistic care that is tailored to your needs and birthing desires.

Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time, and midwives have been supporting women through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond for nearly as long.

Traditionally, each village or community had a midwife who would serve the families, not only as a birth attendant, but as a vital resource for building and maintaining healthy families in the community.

Today, we live in a global society. The world is our village, and we are your village midwives. Modern Village Midwifery seeks to be that vital resource, not only providing a full scope of homebirth midwifery services, but also being an educational resource for nutrition, supplements, family planning, natural remedies and over-all wellness. We strive to serve as broad and diverse of a community as possible.

  • I have had 3 births, but my first unmedicated home birth was with Modern Village a few months ago, and what a difference in the quality of care it has been. I loved that they are knowledgeable about more than just basic pregnancy needs, but also nutrition and beyond. They ask about emotional health, nutrition, and activity, but when I wasn’t doing my best, they never made me feel bad about it but encouraged me and gave advice. There is plenty of time built into appointments to answer any questions. I like that both Elizabeth and Sarah were there at my birth. Having more than one just gives me a little extra peace of mind.
