Meet the Midwives
-
Sarah has been involved in birth work since 2011, and has served women and families across numerous states, countries and continents. Her journey into midwifery began in China while working with women in crisis pregnancy situations. In her search for practical skills to serve the families she worked with, she felt strongly that God was leading her to pursue midwifery. This was particularly challenging for her, because, although her mother had given birth to to her and her siblings at a birth center with a midwife, she knew nothing about birth and always considered herself a bit squeamish. Nevertheless, she enrolled in midwifery school, moved to Oceanside, CA, and began midwifery training through apprenticeship with Birth Matters, Inc. She was surprised how quickly she fell in love with caring for women and babies, and the beauty and power of birth, and how deeply she felt called to this work. After 8 months, she returned to China, where she was able to serve as a doula and reproductive health educator. Sarah continued studying midwifery through correspondence, and participated in an internship at a birth center in the Philippines. She completed her clinical training in Tulsa, Oklahoma, under the supervision of Faith Morie, CPM, LM, graduated from the National Midwifery Institute, and earned the credential of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 2015. She had a private homebirth midwifery practice for 5 years, serving families in Central and Eastern Oklahoma.
Sarah grew up in Guthrie, OK, graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Arts in Letters and Chinese, and now after traveling and living abroad for several years, she loves living in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her husband Micah and their three sons, Jonah, Simon, and Uriah. Sarah and Micah are leaders in their church, and Micah owns a plumbing contracting business. She loves traveling and has visited 30 different countries. Sarah is passionate about nutrition, fitness and holistic health. She loves cooking, trying new restaurants, going on adventures, exercising, dancing and going to the theater whenever she gets the chance.

Rebecca has been attending births since 2013, when she began her midwifery apprenticeship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her interest in midwifery was kindled 12 years ago, with the home birth of her first son. She became a Certified Professional Midwife in 2016 after graduating from Via Vita School of Midwifery. Although Rebecca loves all aspects of birth work, she has a special passion for prenatal care and loves walking along clients as they navigate their unique journey. After taking an extended maternity leave following the birth of her fourth son, Rebecca is excited to return to midwifery as part of a group practice which allows her to balance catching babies with raising her own.
Rebecca was born in Erkelenz, Germany and raised in a melting pot of of German, Russian, and American culture, which has given her a great appreciation for human diversity. Elizabeth has been attending births since 2007 when she started her journey as a doula. Her midwifery education included a diverse apprenticeship with clinicals in multiple states. She trained with 15 different midwife preceptors, giving her a broad foundation on which to build her own practice in Oklahoma. Serving women and families during birth has been the journey of a lifetime, and midwifery is deeply rooted in her soul. She cannot imagine her life without birth work and feels incredibly blessed that the Lord called her to it from a young age. Each of the over 800 births that Elizabeth has been privileged to witness has helped shape her into the midwife she is today.
Elizabeth lives in Tulsa with her husband Patrick. They love traveling together and exploring new places. She is passionate about botanical medicine and loves crafting herbal tinctures and teas. Her hobbies include reading, spending time outdoors, visiting the sauna, and pursuing health and fitness in a variety of ways.
Elizabeth has extensive experience serving Oklahoma birthing families. She has studied and practiced birth work for 17 years; spending 8 years in her own private homebirth practice before teaming up with Sarah at Modern Village in 2020. She treasures the balance group midwifery practice gives her life and loves having time to focus on growing her own family as well as serving others.
Elizabeth is very committed to growth as a midwife and as such is continually investing in continuing education. Some of her favorite professional workshops have been Expect the Unexpected with Mercy In Action, Birth Emergency Skills Training with Andrea Dixon, and The Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner workshop with Gail Tully. She is currently enrolled in the Body Ready Method Program as part of their 2024 cohort. Her dedication to furthering the future of midwifery is highlighted by the many midwifery students that she has graduated since becoming a clinical preceptor in 2015.
